Let us sacrifice for Benue – Atiku
As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life intervention Fellowship in Kaduna, Pastor Yohanna Buru in the spirit of celebration fed over 1,000 Muslim inmates, destitutes and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
AThe pastor who in company of some Christian elders donated food, drinks and toiletries among others to poor Muslims said the gesture was aimed at making them happy at the season.
He also said it was aimed at encouraging Muslims in captivity to also take part in the sallah celebrations. former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) Atiku Abubakar says the massive flooding in Benue State that has led to the displacement of over 100,000 people is a harrowing experience and moved to sympathize with the people of state.
He said that the catastrophic flooding was happening as the nation marks Eid-elKabir, places an even greater duty of care on all who participated in this feast of sacrifice, which marks Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son.
A statement released by the Atiku Media Office quoted the former Vice President, who is also the Zege Mule U Tiv as urging that just as the patriarch Ibrahim made sacrifices for humanity, we all should consider sacrificially doing our part to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters in Benue.
According to the statement, in this regard, Atiku is thus making a donation of N5million to the relief efforts for the flood victims in the state.
He also calls on other Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper in his time of need.
Atiku noted that it was most gratifying that the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency, has mobilized human and material resources to the affected areas and commends President Muhammadu Buhari for this intervention.
While he urged Nigerians to always help the less privileged, the clergy appealed to wealthy individuals to always remember the needy particularly during festive periods.
“We are brothers and sisters and we must be united as one,” he said while he stressed the need to straighten the relationship between Muslims and Christians in the country.
Receiving the Sallah gift items at the destitute home at Kano road in Kaduna, the Public Relations Officer of Northern Blind Forum, Mallam Muntari Saleh commended the Christian leaders for the gesture, praying to God to continue to bless them.
