11 passengers abducted in Rivers rescued

The Rivers State Police Command yesterday said that all the 11 passengers abducted by gunmen along Ndele-Elele road of East-West highway on Monday have regained their freedom.

Andrew Kaduna Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufa’i of Kaduna State yesterday attended the Eid prayers in Birnin-Gwari to celebrate sallah with the people of the town.

The governor, who later addressed residents at a reception after the Eid prayers at the palace of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, said his administra­tion was vigorously pursuing comprehens­ive developmen­t in the state.

He said there was no going back on the determinat­ion to achieve cogent developmen­t for the people.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed this on a WhatsApp massage, said the passengers were rescued unhurt.

The bus was intercepte­d around 7pm along the NdeleElele area an hour into the trip but some of the passengers cogent developmen­t for the betterment of our citizens.

He said, “You gave us this mandate and we will not fail. I heard your complaint regarding security. Like you know we are working hard with the security agencies and by the special grace of God, we will see the end of this.

According to him, the government would establish a campus of Kaduna State University in Birnin Gwari and still waiting the Federal Government to rehabilita­te the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road.

A passenger who escaped, Mr Bright Welekwe, told reporters that after the bus was intercepte­d, the armed men ordered the passengers into bush.

He disclosed that after a long walk into the bush, he sneaked back to the road.
