Minister mourns Chief Onyeukwu

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu has described the late Chief Nath Uzodinma Onyeukwu as a man who represente­d the finest ideals of honour, sincerity of purpose and forthright­ness.

The minister who is lead a delegation to the funeral service of the late elder statesman was among dignitarie­s that have paid tribute to Chief Onyeukwu. No fewer than twenty business facilities were yesterday sealed off in Onitsha and environs by the special enforcemen­t unit of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over default in tax payment.

Onu said by his death, the nation has lost a very important Nigerian.

“He was a great Nigerian who loved his country and his fellow country men and women,” he was quoted to have said in a statement by the deceased family.

Chief Onyeukwu died on May 29 at the age of 85 years and will be buried today in Owerri.

He was survived by Sunny Onyeukwu, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu. manufactur­ing company among others.

Addressing newsmen after the exercise, the team leader of the unit from Abuja, Barths Oborolo, said the exercise was backed by the Nigerian constituti­on.

The Tax Controller of Onitsha, Ukay Okereke, explained that letters of notificati­ons were served to all the defaulters almost a month earlier, contrary to claims that they were not notified.
