- Andrew Agbese (Kaduna) & Shehu Umar (Gusau)

Gunmen who abducted the Assistant Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Agene have made contact with the police command in Gusau, Zamfara State and demanded N50 million ransom. A source at the Zamfara State police command who disclosed this to our correspondent said the kidnappers established the contact Thursday but had not made any subsequent communication since then.

He said the gunmen demanded that the money be given to them before they would release the police officer.

ACP Emmanuel Ajene was abducted Wednesday along Birnin Gwari- Funtua road while returning to his station after a casual leave.

The Zamfara State Police Command declined comment on the matter and could not confirm the ransom demand but the source said negotiations were in progress at press time.

But the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the abduction.

The spokesman, ASP Mukhtar Hussein Aliyu, said the ACP was traveling to his station in Zamfara with his driver when he was abducted.

He said he was not aware of the kidnappers’ communication with to the police command in Gusau. He said the police had since the incident intensified patrol on the route and launched investigation into the incident to rescue the ACP.

“It is only then we can say if they were kidnapped as we are still investigating the matter,” he said.
