The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADDIEC) has fixed December 30 for the local government elections.
Chairman of the commission, Dr Saratu Binta Dikko, who made the announcement in
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was on Thursday night conferred with the award of “Outstanding Ambassador” by the University of Jos Alumni Association at its 2017 Re-Union and Dinner held in Abuja.
Conferring the award on the speaker, President of the Association Alhaji Idris Yakubu, said Dogara was recognised and honoured for Shiite members in the state could cause public disorder adding that if care was not taken, the peace of the state may be breached by the group.
Reacting to the ban, Leader of the group, Sheikh Qassim UmarSanda, said they were surprised by the government action as according to him, Shiite members were not involved in any form of violence and instigations in the state.
LG elections to hold December 30
Kaduna yesterday said by the announcement, electioneering campaign can now begin.
She said the commission has fixed party primaries for political parties for between October 10 and November 14 adding the campaigns are expected to end by December 29 while December 30 is the Election Day.
