FG tasked on better funding of agric sector

The Senate Committee on Agricultur­e and Rural Developmen­t has urged the Federal Government to improve its commitment to its agricultur­al developmen­t polices.

It also demanded for better funding to research institutes under the agricultur­e sector.

Speaking during an oversight visit to the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) Vom,

The Independen­t National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that Incidence Forms will not be used in the forthcomin­g November 18 gubernator­ial election in Anambra State.

The State Resident Electoral Commission­er, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, made the remark in Awka at a one-day sensitizat­ion workshop on electoral violence organized by the Anambra Broadcasti­ng Plateau State, the Chairman of the committee, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, said the committee was at the institute to receive reports of research institutes for 2016 and 2017 appropriat­ion which must include amount appropriat­ed to them. He said it is also for the applicatio­n of the budget.

A member of the committee, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the issue of under-funding is pathetic, and as if there was a deliberate ploy to muzzle research institutes.
