FCTA commences removal of illegal structures

The Federal Capital Territory Administra­tion has commenced the removal of illegal structures along the AbujaNyany­a-Jikwoyi-Karshi route to pave way free flow of traffic in the area.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, who gave the charge in Benin at the opening of the 25th anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of NABTEB, said no nation can develop without the decongesti­on task force yesterday moved into its next phase of the clean-up, to remove all marked illegal structures constituti­ng encroachme­nt on the road corridor.

Represente­d by the Minister of State, Professor Anthony Anwukah, Adamu noted that the developmen­t of skilled middle class through Technical Vocation Education Training (TEVET) was paramount.

NABTEB Registrar, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, said there was under-production of artisans, craftsmen and technician­s in the country as NABTEB cannot produce more than 50,000 annually. operation explained that the aim of the exercise was to achieve seamless human and vehicular movement as well as ensure safety of lives and property, which could be lost due to any accident on the road.

He also disclosed that the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has given the taskforce additional three months.
