APC urges members to shun Enugu rally
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has advised people of the state, particularly supporters of the party, to distance themselves from the planned APC mega rally being organized by some “suspended key officials of the party in the state,” saying it was an avenue to cause unrest.
Some recent posters purportedly emanating from the state chapter of the party had publicized the rally tagged: “APC Mega Rally” slated for Awgu on January 21, 2018.
But at a press briefing in Enugu yesterday, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said suspended former officials of the party in the state lacked the legitimate right to organize such a rally in the name of the APC as it would amount to illegality and an affront on the party leadership.
Nwoye said the quartet of A.C. Ude, Louis Okoro, Lolo Queen Nwankwo and Juliet Ibekaku, who were being linked with the megarally were on suspension which was approved by the national secretariat. He called on members of the public and security agencies to beware of the antics of the quartet who he said were being used as agents to destabilize the APC, now that the timetable for the 2019 elections has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Nwoye said no faction exists in Enugu State APC, pointing out that commission of a criminal act does not amount to factionalisation of a party. He appealed to the security agents to quickly arrest the groups coordinating the rally.
