How Buhari is tackling youth unemployme­nt – SGF

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, says President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledg­es the challenges posed by unemployme­nt, especially among the youth and has been deploying innovative ideas including the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERPG) to address it.

He listed the N-Power programme, an statement issued yesterday by the Assistant Commission­er of Police (Administra­tion), Ahmed S. Bello, on behalf of the Commission­er of Police.

“The Borno State Police Command in collaborat­ion with ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ high command wishes to draw the attention of the general public the election I had free access to him anytime I wanted to see him, the opportunit­y I used to present to him my God-given talent of fabricatio­n of tricycles.

“The governor was very impressed with my talent, seeing how it could be harnessed to address unemployme­nt among youths and thus promised to support the innovation.

“He further promised to take me to President Muhammadu Buhari for presidenti­al support, this spurred me to improve and modify the machines in various shapes and sizes, but to my greatest amazement, when I took some of the tricycles to the governor to confirm to him what I told him, he denied me, that frustrated me, given the money and everything I spent on the project” he said. N10bn Youth Entreprene­urship Support (YES) programme and the ENABLE youth programme among others as part of initiative­s the government is using to provide gainful employment for the nation’s teeming youths.

The Acting Director General of the BPSR Mr Dasuki Arabi said the 23-page policy note was the result of an August 2017 research conducted by the BPSR with support from DFID PEARL programme.

It took the combined efforts of Kano State Fire Service personnel, the police and SSS to convince him to get down from the mast at 11:45am. There was no immediate response from the governor.

The spokesman of Kano State Fire Service, CFO Sa’idu Muhammad Ibrahim, said the command received a distress call from one Lawal Isah Bagwai at 9:30am and immediatel­y rushed to the scene. He said the man was handed over to the police immediatel­y after the rescue.

Spokesman of Kano State Police Command, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said the man was taken away by the SSS.
