‘Dadin Kowa power plant ready October’
The Dadin Kowa Dam 40MW hydroelectric power plant will commence power supply by October, the firm handling the project, Mabon Nigeria Limited has said.
The project coordinator, Mr Cyril Christopher, disclosed this at the project site yesterday when the acting Director-General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) Engineer Chidi Azuwah led management of the commission on a monitoring visit.
Mr Christopher said civil works had reached 85 per cent completionadding that the company would accelerate work Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in collaboration with Kano State government with support from the World Bank yesterday signed the engagement of an engineering design consultancy firm for four water conservation structures and minor irrigation facilities.
They are to be constructed in Tofa, Shanono, Makoda and Takai local government areas of the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, NEWMAP state project coordinator, Malam Musa Shu’aibu, stated that the execution of the project under NEWMAP was in line with the provisions of project component document.
The Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda represented by the permanent secretary, Malam Baba Halilu Dantiye, revealed that the state government would continue to offer its support to see that the project succeeds. to make it ready for commissioning by October.
Earlier, Engineer Izuwah said water release from Dadin Kowa would also make sustainable power generation at Kiri Dam possible, adding that the project was a pathfinder and of double benefit to the North East geo-political zone.
