LG congress splits APC in Tafa
The just-concluded local government congress in Niger State has divided the party into factions in Tafa Local Government Area.
Mohammed Haruna (Liberia), the incumbent party chairman and the acclaimed winner of the congress in the area, Aliyu Isah Abubakar, are both leading different factions.
The crisis was said to have arisen following the decision of the party to adopt an affirmation which returned the entire incumbent for another term.
Despite the part’s decision, Abubakar claimed that the election held and that he won and should therefore be inaugurated as the party chairman for the council.
In a letter titled “Petition against the decision to affirm the outgoing local government exco of APC Tafa LGA, Niger State”, he claimed to have scored 215 votes against the incumbent party which allegedly had 36 votes.
Abubakar hinted that the state APC reconciliation, harmonization and affirmation congress committee led by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, vehemently opposed the affirmation.
Haruna had earlier protested to the party secretariat in Minna insisting on affirmation of all the party executive members for second term as agreed by the party.
The State Organizing Secretary, Modibo Ismail Musa, while addressing protesters at the secretariat yesterday, promised that the party would be fair and just to all, while urging them to present their complaint in writing.
