DSS arrests 5 over fake market receipts

The Department State Services (DSS) in Anambra State has arrested five persons in connection with an alleged diversion of government funds through issuance of fake receipts at the Ogbaru market.

The Commission­er for Trade, Commerce, Market and Wealth A frontline socio-cultural group, the Kano Renaissanc­e Group, has hailed the management of University of Lagos for bestowing the award of Best Governor on Gombe State Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the Talban Gombe, Creation, Dr. Christian Madubuko, said the culprits, including some market leaders, were siphoning government funds into their personal pockets through issuance of counterfei­t receipts to traders instead of government certified receipts.

Madubuko, who was accompanie­d by a team from the DSS, advised the general public to report anybody last Saturday.

In an e-mail signed by the group’s Acting President, Alhaji Sagir Isa, the group said: “Of all the governors in Nigeria, only Dankwambo has in truth unified his diverse people of Gombe, making them appreciate their heterogene­ous compositio­n, and reaping caught indulging in such act, stressing that the state government needed money for developmen­t of the state.

The President General of Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Victor Nwawuzie, however denied the allegation, saying the only fees he was authorised to collect were storage fees, developmen­t levy, legal tax and sanitation levy with issuance of government receipts.

Gunmen shoot Wadada’s aide

Unidentifi­ed gunmen Wednesday night shot and wounded Salisu Tanimu Atiku, a Personal Assistant to an APC governorsh­ip aspirant in Nasarawa State, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, in Keffi LGA, the aspirant told Daily Trust yesterday.

Atiku sustained gunshot wounds on his back after the gunmen stopped his vehicle along the main gate of the state university in Keffi around 9:30 pm.

A relative of the victim, Yakubu Shehu, told Daily Trust yesterday that the gunmen brought Atiku down from his vehicle, seized two of his handsets, some money, shot him on his back while lying on the highway and took away his vehicle. Atiku was rushed to hospital and is now recuperati­ng. The incident was reported at the divisional police station in Keffi.

Hon Ahmed Wadada said he didn’t know the motive behind the attack but that it was taken to the police for investigat­ion.
