Ex-Ondo gov: My daughter was killed for rituals
Last Sunday, July 8th, news broke that the decomposing body of 25-year-old Khadija, daughter of immediate-past deputy governor of Ondo State, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, has been discovered in the room of her boyfriend Seidu Adeyemi, in Oke Aro area of Akure, the state capital.
The deceased, the first daughter of the deputy governor, was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, and had been declared missing for six days before the police discovered that she had been killed and buried in Adeyemi’s room.
According to the deceased’s father, Khadija was a victim of ritual murder. He said following the discovery that his daughter was missing, they reported to the police and tried tracking her movement through her phone, but met a brick wall while her assailants were trying to buy time using her number to send text message that she was on her way back to school.
Alhaji Oluboyo said they finally resorted to prayers and the result was that Adeyemi’s brother, Mutiu, said Khadija’s ghost haunted him after he discovered her corpse in his brother’s room. He was said to have reported to his father who was at this time in the mosque, and decided to report the matter to the police.
According to the spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, at the parade of the suspect on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters in Akure, the suspect was just stuffing the corpse into a sack when police detectives swooped in on him.
Joseph said on the evening of July 6, 2018, the Command received information that one Seidu Sakiru Adeyemi, 27, boyfriend to the missing Khadija, had allegedly killed her and was about to dispose of her corpse.
“On close observation of his residence, it was discovered that the suspect had actually buried the missing girl for six days, and was planning to exhume the remains and finally dispose of it, because according to him, he was not comfortable with the stench coming from it, as it was not properly buried.”
The suspect told Daily Trust Saturday that he was not the one that killed her, but only went to look for a digger which was used to dig the shallow grave where she was buried in. He claimed that two other men were invited by the deceased, and he met one engaging her in intercourse, before she was finally killed. When asked why he did not report the incident to the police for six days, he kept mum.
The suspect, who graduated from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2017 told Daily Trust Saturday that he was jobless and was into internet scams. He also said he’s not happy with the development, as his name, and that of his family’s, is ruined.
Police said he will be charged to court this week.
The father of the deceased, Alhaji Oluboyo, has said that he was not interested in any legal matter concerning the death of his daughter, saying that as a Muslim, he has left it to God.
When Daily Trust Saturday visited the scene, and home of the suspect located on plot 17, Adegbolarin layout, Atunrase, the house was deserted and under lock and key, as other tenants have since fled. Even the street itself was deserted, except for some women selling wares in a few shops. Most of them claimed to be new in the area.
The mother of the suspect, who was said to be selling yam in the area, it was learnt had disappeared immediately the police visited the scene.
A resident who later spoke under anonymity said the suspect does not really interact with people. The source added that the suspect’s sound system was on loud on the day of the murder, “perhaps to muffle screams or sounds of a struggle”.
Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, paid a condolence visit to the family on behalf of the people of the state, and urged youth to be hardworking. He also promised that the culprit will face justice.
