APC Kogi West senatorial aspirants protest over primary
Three aspirants in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kogi-West Senatorial primary yesterday protested at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja over the recent conduct of the primary.
Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle, Chief (Mrs) Doyin Ibikunle Eshanumi and Alhaji Tajudeen Ibrahim Bisimillah jointly submitted a petition to the APC national chairman which was received by Barrister Godwin Yakwo, the chairman’s Confidential Secretary, who promised to deliver it. Akanle at a press interview after the submission described the primary in Kogi-West as phantom, adding that the result wasn’t a representation of a true and fair election.
He alleged that three of the four aspirants were walked out of the venue, while majority of those that conducted the primary were state and local government officials with only two election committee members visible.
Chief (Mrs) Eshanumi, who lamented that she was almost brutalized, said the venue which was fixed at Kabba Stadium was later changed to a private hall without the three aspirants’ knowledge and when they later traced the place, they were harassed by security personnel. She said the primary was conducted at 11 pm with each purported delegate being guarded by policemen. Alhaji Bisimillah called for the cancellation of the primary and the conduct of a fresh one.
