NUJ gets new president
The South-East Bureau Chief of ThisDay Newspapers, Chris Isiguzo, yesterday emerged the new president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Isiguzo won the election at the just concluded 6th Delegates Conference of the union held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Returning Officer from the Nigeria Labour Congress, Benson Upah, declared Isiguzo winner, having polled 346 votes against Waheed Odusile The International Association of Lions Clubs is targeting treatment of over 200 million physically impaired people in the world this year, including 50million who got 329 votes.
Other contestants were Bamidele Atunbi, 101 votes, Abiodun Olalere, 56, Uzaka Abraham, 30, Jacob Edi, 16 and Alademka Adelegan, 9 votes. Announcing the results, Upah commended the peaceful conduct of all the participants.
Lions Clubs target 50m Nigerians for eye treatment
Nigerians. The International President of the clubs, Gudrun Yugvandottir, who was in Nigeria to flag-off the vision and diabetes campaign, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja yesterday. She said though the club had been treating eye problems over the years, they decided to step up such services this year.
Yugvandottir also noted that since many people were suffering from diabetes, the body had also decided to help tackle the situation.
