Refugees commission, Emzor support FCT IDPs
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) in collaboration with Emzor pharmaceutical Industries Limited, has offered health-care services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
IDPs in Durumi, Kuchingoro and Malaysia Garden camps were tested for malaria, typhoid and blood pressure through the initiative.
Children were dewormed while other medical check-ups were carried out on adults during the one-day medical outreach.
Declaring the outreach open, the Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the main objective of the programme was to bring rapid response to health challenges of the internally displaced persons in the various camps in FCT.
She said the commission had received series of letters of request from IDPs for assistance on health issues, adding that it was the reason it went into partnership with Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited to ameliorate their health challenges.
The NCFRMI Federal Commissioner also said the outreach would be replicated in all IDPs camps all over the country.
The Group Managing Director of Emzor, Dr. Stella Okoli, said the company was concerned about the wellbeing of the IDPs, adding that was why the firm decided to give back to the people of Nigeria, including IDPs.
The IDPs’ leader in Durumi camp, Idriss Ibrahim-Alidu who thanked the government and Emzor pharmaceuticals for the outreach, called their attention to the prevalence of hepatitis in the camp.
