Man impersonat­es Atiku’s aide, swindles 50

The Inspector General of Police Intelligen­ce Response Team (IRT) said yesterday it had arrested one Aminu Ahmed Yerima, who was claiming to be former vice president Atiku Abubakar’s aide on Facebook, to swindle unsuspecti­ng members of the public.

Aminu was arrested in his home in Kano after IGP Ibrahim Idris instructed the Commander of IRT, Abba Kyari, to investigat­e the matter when the news got to him.

Agraduate of Public Health, Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, Mr. Alvintakon Otareh, has won the cooking competitio­n of the maiden iCreate Skill Fest, a technical and vocational skill competitio­n titled ‘The Olympics of Technical Skills’ to empower youths to be entreprene­urs.

Otareh was followed by a female runner-up, Ms. Joy Onoseigbua­n

A top police source said during interrogat­ion, Aminu admitted swindling over 50 persons on Facebook. He hails from Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, same as the former vice president.

Police said he had fleeced his victims of large sums of money, running into millions of naira.

He ran into trouble when two of his female victims petitioned the IGP detailing how they were defrauded to the tune of N5million.

The 29-year-old said: “I obtained a master’s degree from Danladi and Mr. Orbigele Phoebe who emerged third. They won N300, 000, N200, 000 and N100, 000 respective­ly and were also announced as the brand ambassador of iCreate Africa, BON Hotel and Cachez Design Abuja.

The cooking competitio­n involve the use of local dishes condiments to prepare dishes.

Otareh told Daily Trust that despite his profession­al calling, he was a great cook and also to prove the University of Ghana, Accra in 2014, and my bachelor’s degree from the Federal University Yola, Adamawa State in 2010. I went into fraud in 2016 after I could not secure a job, and I was equally duped by someone on Facebook who wanted to link me up to a sugar mummy. The man who swindled me said the sugar mummy would pay me for sex. The fraudsters took N30,000 from me and blocked me from communicat­ing with him on Facebook. Then I thought I could do same and make some money since I had no job.” that cooking is not a women world.

The CEO of iCreate Africe, Mr. Bright Jaja, said the initiative, held in Abuja in October 26-27, was to promote skills developmen­t and prepare the youth workforce for the future.

The competitio­n saw over 150 Nigerians competing for 17 skills including catering, dress making, painting, tailoring, art, photograph­y, web design, app developmen­t and graphics design, among others.
