ICPC seizes 44 properties worth N14.7bn from 32 companies

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), yesterday said it has seized 44 properties made up of mansions, factory and 27 plots of lands allegedly linked to 32
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has charged community leaders in Kogi State to use their positions to ensure peace before, during and after the November 16 governorship election.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. James Apam, gave the charge yesterday in Lokoja while speaking at a forum organised by the commission for leaders of various communities in the state.
Apam said it was practically impossible for the commission to conduct a free, fair and credible election under a chaotic atmosphere, and urged the leaders to help in ensuring peaceful election.
He told them to identify any member of their community who corporate entities.
In a statement from ICPC spokesperson Rasheedat Okoduwa said the properties whose cumulative value has been put at N14.7 billion were seized after the entities denied their ownership.
She said the Commission, in collaboration with the Federal Inland is likely to constitute a threat to the peaceful conduct of the election and alert security agents.
The commissioner appealed to them to help in educating members of their communities on how to vote for the candidate of their choice to reduce invalid votes.
The Country Representative of the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), Mrs. MariaTeresa Maurio, described the sensitisation forum as right a step in the right direction.
Maurio who was represented by Dr. Isiaka, Yahaya, said the leaders serve as a bridge between the people and government and are in best position to shoe the opinion of people.
The INEC Director in charge of voter education, Mr Ayo Aluko, said the objective of the forum was to sensitise the leaders on the need to ensure peace before and during the election.
TRevenue Service (FIRS) had found that the entities had N883.7 million tax liability on the seized properties.
She also said the seized properties, all located in the Federal Capital Territory include: two mansions, 27 bare lands, one factory building and 15 buildings at Asokoro, Maitama and other districts.
Kogi guber: INEC tasks leaders on peaceful poll
he Dadin-kowa Hydropower Plant in Gombe State would be commissioned in December, the Managing Director of Mabon Energy Limited, the company handling the project, Mr Christopher Cyril, said yesterday.
He made the remark when he visited Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House, Gombe.
He said the project will produce 40 megawatts of electricity to improve and stabilise power supply as well as promote socioeconomic development of the region and country at large.
Governor Yahaya expressed delight that after several years, the project is now coming to fruition, noting that apart from enhancing electricity supply, the plant will also promote micro, small and medium enterprises.
He revealed that there is already a plan by the Federal Government to commence 3000 hectare irrigation expansion scheme in Dadin-kowa, while the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will also set up a sub-station to service other areas.
