IPOB ATTACK AMAECHI IN SPAIN

- By Chris Agabi

Some Nigerians, believed to be IPOB members yesterday attacked the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi at the climate change summit holding in Madrid, Spain.

The minister who made this known in a tweet using his handle @ChibuikeAmaechi, however, said the Spanish Polish repelled the attackers before they could do any harm to him.

“Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on national assignment at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain. They were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm. I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support and prayers” he tweeted.

His media aid Mr David Nyifor couldn’t provide further details saying he doesn’t have more information beyond what the minister tweeted.

He also confirmed the incidence but added that the minister wasn’t harmed and has continued his official engagement without hindrance.

However, someone familiar with the mater who is also in Spain with the Minsiter claimed the attackers where members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Recall members of the IPOB movement had previously vowed to attack any person with Igbo roots and occupying high profile positions in the government anytime they are outside of Nigeria.

Although Mr. Amaechi is from Ikwere, of Rivers State, many believed he is Ibo. Mr Amaechi is also one of Mr. Buhari’s key ministers’ believed to enjoy the favour of the president.
