NIPSS DG urges effective population management
The Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Professor Habu S. Galadima, has noted that with the UN projection of Nigeria as among the four most populous countries in the world, there is need for Nigeria to have a critical and effective population management strategy that is aligned with the nation’s national development program.
He made the call in a speech sent to the organizers of a consultative meeting on key issues of family planning and child spacing held in Kano and organized by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC). According to him, failure to address the current population growth will be detrimental to any kind of economic development initiative and effort to improve the living conditions of citizens.
He added that NIPSS was committed to the task given to it by President Buhari, adding that by the end of the Senior Executive Course 42, practical and usable recommendations and implementation strategies would be proffered to address population growth and human capital development in Nigeria.
In his welcome address, a representative of dRPC, Malam Ubale Ibrahim Rano, said the meeting was expected to give room for presentations on year 2020 plans and programs for improve family planning in the state.
