Medical council vows to flush quacks
The Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Tosen Irabo, has said that the council is embarking on inspection of medical laboratories in the states to fish out quacks.
Speaking during the induction of 45 graduating students of Zariabased Elite International College of Health Science and Technology, Dr Irabo said the council had already inspected 14 states.
He added: “The essence of the inspection is to remove quacks, because Nigerians need the best and they deserve to get the best results from our laboratories. In that line, the MLSCN has a National Quality Assurance Laboratory in Zaria which has just been given an international accreditation. We have established another facility in our headquarters in Abuja all towards getting quality results.”
He said quacks caught by the council would be taken to court after the necessary investigation is concluded.
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Muktar Ramalan Yero, described the duty of medical scientists as crucial to the entire health sector, urging them to continue to contribute their quota in the assistance of humanity.
The Acting Chairman, Governing Council of the college, Dr Khalil Kugu, said it was only after induction that graduands could become medical laboratory scientists, which the event had signified. He said all the graduands passed their national examinations with distinctions except four.
