Ethiopian PM, Kazir to bag UniAbuja honorary degrees
The management of the University of Abuja will today award honorary degrees to the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali, a former Chief of Army Staff, retired Major General Alwali Kazir and singer Ibrahim Narambada for distinguishing themselves in their respective fields and contributing to peace and progress of their countries.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced the recruitment of 1,050 graduate trainees, signaling the successful completion of its 2019/2020 employment exercise. A statement from the corporation’s Acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Mr. Samson Makoji, quoted the Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari, as saying that the Human Resources Division of the NNPC had since commenced the issuance of provisional offers of employment to the employees.
While describing the recruitment as a very important assignment for the corporation, Mallam Kyari stated that the outcome of the exercise reflected national spread and complied with all statutory requirements.
The GMD maintained that recruitment in the corporation would be a continuous process, even as he noted that the Experienced Hire (EH) component of the exercise would be addressed in due course.
“We look forward to warmly receiving our new team members and working with them to build a corporation that all Nigerians will be proud of,” Kyari added.
It would be recalled that the 2019/2020 recruitment exercise kicked off via nationwide adverts in the national dailies & online media on March 13, 2019, followed by the shortlisting of qualified candidates which commenced from March 27, 2019.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdul- Rasheed Na’Allah, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja ahead of the university’s 24th convocation ceremony slated for today.
He said the award would be conferred on the Ethiopean leader for helping to bring peace between his country and Eritrea, among other things.
It said Gen. Kazir is being honoured for his exemplary leadership as well as accommodating people in crisis, while
Narambada’s songs speak value and serve as example to the youth.
The vice chancellor disclosed that 10, 331 students would be awarded certificates, out of which 26 are first class degrees, 866 second class upper, 3,317 second class lower, 339 third class while 52 had pass grades.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress and stability in the varsity, saying a lot of strategies had been put in place to make it the best in the country.
