while travelling to Akure. Although he has regained his freedom, the incident sent shivers down the spines of other players in the NPFL. Although this is not the first incident of kidnapping, there are fears that things may get worse when the league resumes.
A player of Nasarawa United, Moses Tsehuan believes strongly that the only way out is for well armed security personnel to be attached to the clubs whenever they are travelling to attend away matches.
He said considering the increasing insecurity in the country, it would be foolhardy to continue to allow the clubs to be on their own on the unsafe highways in the country.
The former Yobe Desert Stars captain also suggested that state governments should come to the help of the clubs by providing for them luxury buses that can offer comfort and safety on the bad roads.
“In my opinion, we need to have security personnel with us. Most times we travel in the night and it is usually scary. You have your heart in your mouth because you don’t know what may happen the next moment.
“I am not saying with security attached to us nothing will happen but at least the risk of falling prey to robbers and bandits so easily will be minimised.
“And considering that our roads are really bad, it will make sense for clubs to make use of luxury buses. We travel a lot and the roads are terrible. The small buses we use expose us to a lot of accidents,” he said.
It will be recalled that on Tuesday, a former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh advised players in the NPFL to stop ‘unnecessary’ trips.
His advice came after Enyimba International star midfielder, Dare Ojo was kidnapped on Sunday.
