Insecurity: We all have critical roles to play – Masari
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, Thursday said dealing with banditry and other security problems is critical to the survival of the country, and it is therefore the responsibility of all to play their parts well in order to secure the future of the country.
The governor spoke when the management of Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust and other titles, paid him a courtesy visit in Katsina.
“Nigeria is entering a state in which all of us must be extra careful. Indeed there must be a country, but all of us have critical roles to play in ensuring the survival of this nation, particularly when you look at the way this issue of insecurity is being handled,” he said.
He said on the part of the media, though it is well known that bad news is good news, instead of always reporting negative stories and depicting the situation as hopeless, there could be other ways of telling same stories by analyzing the successes recorded in the fight, identifying the challenges and charting the way forward.
He added that all stakeholders must look inward to identify where they are not doing well and with sincerity of purpose, the situation could come under control.
Masari said there was the need to look at the “problems within and amongst ourselves, look at fundamental issues within the security apparatus and the problem of civil service and its reform in order to be able to face the problem squarely.”
On his relationship with Media Trust, Masari said it was a long standing one and it was duty bound on him to maintain such relationship, adding that it was a responsibility and not a privilege to do that. He noted that he was proud that Daily Trust is today seen as a national and not regional newspaper.
Earlier in his address, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust, Mallam Nura Daura, said the team was in Katsina to solidify the existing cordial relationship with the state and introduce the new management team which took over from the owner-managers.
“There was a succession plan which was designed to see the exit of ownermanagers with a view to consolidating the Daily Trust brand and strengthening its position as a credible media organization. All of them have fallen out now and they are serving as members of the board of directors,” he said.
The CEO was with Editor-In-Chief/ Executive Director of Media Trust, Malam Naziru Mikailu Abubakar and the Kano Regional Manager, Mallam Yusha’u A. Ibrahim during the visit.
