‘I received criticism for my writing’s similarity to real life’

Fauziyya D. Suleiman is one of Kannywood’s few prolific female scriptwriters who have made a mark in the Hausa film industry.

Kannywood scriptwriter Fauziyya D. Suleiman said she has faced numerous challenges as a writer, especially when her fictional work coincided with a living person’s life experience.

“On such occasions, I usually receive accolades or condemnations. But I was not deterred. I tried to make them understand that either way, it is a coincidence,” she revealed.

Fauziyya said she would want the world to remember her as that writer whose work inspired and transformed people’s lives for the better as her priority in life is to put a smile on people’s faces.

Due to her love for books, she started writing at a very young age. Her first book ‘Me Nayi Mata’ was published in 2002 when she was 21 years old. She later published over 30 books before she ventured into script writing for Hausa films.

“I love reading books, therefore when I began work as a health worker, my mind was captured by writing. My writing carrier began even before I started working,” she said, adding that she has written over a hundred stories made into films so far. “I am also one of the writers of ‘Dadin Kowa’ and ‘Kwana Casa’in’ TV series aired on Arewa24.”

Some of Fauziyya’s works include, ‘Kishin Banza’, ‘Guduna Ake Yi’, ‘Rayuwar ‘Ya Mace’, ‘Mece Ce Rayuwa’, ‘Burin Raina’, ‘Karshen Wahala’, ‘Labarin

Zuciya’, ‘Matsalar Mace’, ‘Mijin Uwa’, among others.

Fauziyya is one of Kannywood’s few female writers who has written over 100 stories for film. She is also a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).
