Elegushi Royal Family disowns Sam Larry over Mohbad’s death

- Abdullateef Aliyu, Lagos

Foremost traditional ruler in Lagos, Oba Saheed Ademola, Elegushi of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, has reacted to the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as “Mohbad”, distancing the Royal Family from the death.

The monarch specifically disowned the popular music promoter, Sam Larry, saying he has no affiliation with the Royal Family.

He however called on the Police to conduct diligent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the budding artiste who died on Wednesday at the age of 27.

The death of the musician has generated outcry in the country, especially among his fans, who said his death was not natural.

After his death, a video had emerged of an attack on him by

Larry and his boys during a video shoot where Mohbad was physically assaulted while he sustained injuries.

There have been reports linking Larry to the Elegushi Royal Family, one of the influential kingdoms in Lagos State.

In a statement by the media consultant to the Royal Family, Deyemi Saka, the kingdom said the Royal father is a firm believer in the sacredness of human life and how heartbreaking it is for any parent to lose and bury a child while extending his “heartfelt and sincere sympathy” to the parents, siblings, friends, and other well-wishers of Mohbad.

The statement added, “We will also like to inform the general public that Samson Erinfolami Balogun is not a member of the Elegushi Royal Family and he is not under direct or indirect employment of the Palace, HRM Oba Ademola Elegushi, or the

Royal Family.

“Thirdly, as a public figure and a Father to all and in particular everyone in His Royal Majesty’s Kingdom and domain, taking pictures with Kabiyesi is not proof of a “special” relationship; it is a testament of the open door policy and new approach to traditional leadership that is not peculiar to HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi. Any interpretation beyond this is a misrepresentation of fact.
