- Ado Abubakar Musa, Jos

Residents of Plateau State communities have pledged to live peacefully with one another irrespective of their ethnoreligious differences, promising to offer all necessary support to security agencies to ensure harmony between them.

The Gashish and Mahanga communities in the Riyom Local Government Area made this known to newsmen during the inspection of a new Mobile Police Barrack built by the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), in the area.

In the past, the Gashish community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state which borders Bokkos and Riyom local government areas have witnessed series of ethno-religious crises, leading to several loss of lives and properties, especially between Berom and Fulani.

Members of the communities, however, expressed joy over the development and promised to support security agencies in ensuring peace in the area.

Pam Din, a youth leader in the Gashish community, said “We are happy with the project. The project came to us as a surprise because we didn’t expect it. Now that it has been actualised, we have nothing to say than to thank the government for their gesture. We will cooperate with security.”

Ya’u Adamu, a Fulani leader, also pledged to support the project and to cooperate with stakeholders in the state.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the commission, Abubakar Yelwa, while inspecting the project explained that the devastating level of insecurity bedevilling the areas was what informed their decision to build the police barrack.
