- Yusufu Aminu Idegu, Jos

The Plateau State command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has evacuated a decomposing body of a victim of silent killings going on in communities in Plateau State.

Similar to the case of the late General Idris Alkali who was declared missing in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State in 2018 and his body and vehicle found in a mining pond in Dura Dung, another victim, Michael Danladi, was also discovered in another mining pond in Bakin Ladi Local Government Area.

The prosecuting counsel,

Mulleng Alex, who is the Officer Crime (OC), State CID Jos led the principal witness to the box to give his account to the court on Friday.

According to the star witness in the murder case before High Court 11, Jos yesterday, the police IPO Insp. Jurbe Ezekiel, testified how the police spent two days to evacuate the decomposing body of the late Danladi.

Insp. Ezekiel told the court, “The deceased Michael Danladi was declared missing by his family on the 25th of September 2022. The police swung into action immediately. A friend of the deceased who was together with him when he had the last call before he got missing told the police about the call, and we followed our investigations from there. We later subjected the phone number to True caller facility and a name Dung appeared. We send the phone number to force headquarters in Abuja for analysis to find out that the line belongs to a very close friend of the deceased.

“We trailed and arrested Dung Isaac who confessed to be a bosom friend to the deceased. The principal suspect tried to deny knowledge of the crime but he later confessed that he contracted one Danladi Maiyaki at the sum of N40,000 to kill the deceased. He also confessed that the killers took the deceased to a farm at Maijankai in Barkin Ladi local government. The suspect led us to the abandoned pond where the decomposing body of the deceased was discovered and evacuated. It took the police two days using divers to recover the decomposing body of Michael Danladi.

“The police eventually trailed and got the said Danladi Maiyaki who also confessed in his statement that he killed the deceased with a harmer after hitting him on the head.

“Both the principal suspect Dung Isaac and Danladi Maiyaki are in detention at the Jos Custodial Centre.”

After taking the 2nd witness, Justice Dawat Shashe’et adjourned the case to 25th January for mini trial.
