We won’t accept relocation of Palestinia­ns to Africa — Envoy

The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh, has vowed that Palestinia­ns will not accept another Nakba.

The Arabic word Nakba means catastroph­e or disaster.

In reference to the Israeli-Palestinia­n conflict, the term Nakba or al-Nakba refers to the Palestinia­ns having lost their homeland during and after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war.

It is thought that around 700,000 people in what is now Israel either fled or were forced from their homes.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja yesterday, Shawesh said Palestinia­ns would not accept being forced out of their home once again by Israel.

According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli government is in talks with Congo and other countries for the “voluntary migration” of Palestinia­ns from Gaza.

The federal government has reviewed its guidelines for recruitmen­t into the Civil Defence, Fire, Correction­al and Immigratio­n Services, saying that henceforth, 35 per cent of recruitmen­ts into the services would be allocated to women.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this at the end of the meeting of the Board of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correction­al and Immigratio­n Services in Abuja yesterday.

Smotrich called for the return of Jewish settlers to the Gaza Strip after the war and said its Palestinia­n population should be encouraged to emigrate.

“Israel political leaders are discussing this solution with many African countries but we will not accept another Nakba,” Shawesh said.

The Palatine envoy called on other countries to join South Africa in standing in support of internatio­nal law and justice by suing Israel for its genocide of the people of Palestine. to women was in line with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Tinubu.

Tunji-Ojo, who spoke through the secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said the ongoing recruitmen­t into the Federal Fire Service would be based on the new guidelines, which would focus largely on profession­alism, gender mainstream­ing and federal character principles.

He warned Nigerians interested in applying not to patronise scammers, saying that government was already aware of some scammers who are asking for money for recruitmen­t into the Fire Service.
