PDP to hold NEC meeting April 18, appoints caretaker c’ttees
After a long wait, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for April 18.
Debo Ologunagba, the national publicity secretary of the party, in a statement noted that the NEC meeting comes after the meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) on the same date.
Part of the statement reads, “The
BoT meeting will hold at the NEC Hall of the PDP national secretariat, after which the NEC meeting commences at the same venue.
“Consequently, the meeting of national caucus of our party has been scheduled for April 17, 2024.
“The NWC urges all members of NEC, BoT and the national caucus to please take note of the scheduled dates accordingly.”
Party appoints caretaker committees for state, LG, ward chapters in 20 states
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee of the party has approved the appointment of executives whose tenures have expired in some states, local government and ward chapters to serve as caretaker committees in the affected states.
Ologunagba, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noted that the move was in pursuant to the provisions of section 29 (2) (b) of the constitution of the party on behalf of the National Executive Committee.
Ologunagba also stated that the caretaker committees have been mandated to run the affairs of the party at the appropriate levels for a period of three months.
He gave the names of the states as Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Enugu and Gombe.
Others are Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Niger, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The NWC also clarified that while in some states the caretaker committees only affected the state executive, in some others, it is either the local government or the ward executives, or both.
The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has asked Christians to pray for political stability and unity of the country on the occasion of Easter celebration.
Ganduje, in a statement on Friday by his chief press secretary, Edwin Olofu, noted that the peace and prosperity of Nigeria required prayers, and urged Christians to use the occasion of Easter to reflect deeply on what more they need to do as a people to move the country forward.
He also called on Nigerians to be calm in the face of economic hardship, assuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working hard to end the avalanche of challenges bedevilling the country.
“May this day of reflection and sacrifice inspire unity, peace and harmony across the country. Let us uphold the values of love, compassion and empathy towards one another,” Ganduje stated.
The former governor of Kano State also called on all Nigerians, irrespective of religious or political affiliations, to rally round President Tinubu to succeed in his drive to make Nigeria a better place for all.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon witness the needed development and economic prosperity with the implementation of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the current administration.
