Russia qualification will determine Eagles coach fate – Yusuf

- By Mansur Abubakar

Super Eagles interim manager Salisu Yusuf says he or whoever gets the task of steering the senior national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup by the Nigeria Football Federation will be relieved of his duties on failure to achieve the objective. Three-time African champions Nigeria face a very difficult task of qualifying for a third straight World Cup after they were pitted against Zambia, longtime foes Cameroon and Africa’s most highly rated side Algeria in Friday’s draws in Cairo.

Yusuf in a chat with Fever Pitch added that with all eyes on Algeria and Cameroun, Zambia shouldn’t also be taken lightly as the country’s national teams always have something up their sleeves.

“I know the risks involved at this time because world cup qualification is important for Nigeria so failure by any coach will likely result in a sack but like I said in my earlier, I am very confident that Eagles can emerge from that group to reach Russia.” Yusuf told Fever Pitch.

Meanwhile, Nigerian players have been reacting to the draws with most signaling confidence that Eagles have what it takes to go through despite the difficulties attached.

AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile believes the Super Eagles can scale the hurdle to qualify for the World Cup.

“Yes we #SuperEagles can! #2018WorldCupDraw #EUE3,” Echiejile tweeted.

Sharing in this optimism is Watford forward Odion Ighalo who feels nothing is impossible to achieve.

“Impossible is nothing @AllanNyom @Adlene Guediora”

In the same vein, John Ogu is positive that the Super Eagles will qualify with a good fighting spirit and hardwork though admits that the zone is tough.

“Top football Nations but with hard work and fight, we can come out strong. #i believe”

And Olympiacos’ Brown Ideye bared with mind with a hash tag #Believe followed by a symbol of the Nigeria flag.
