Edo guber: PDP accuses APC of intimidation ...It is not true – APC

- From Usman A. Bello, Benin

The People Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of intimidation. The PDP alleged that the ruling party denied it usage of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for the flag-off of its governorship campaign slated for Monday.

Briefing journalists in Benin yesterday, the state chairman of the party, Dan Orbih, said after receiving approval from the state Ministry of Sports to use the stadium for the campaign flag-off, they later heard that the approval had been cancelled.

Orbih said that as a result of the development, the party opted for a new venue at the Baptist Convention ground in Benin.

Speaking on the leadership crisis rocking the party, Orbih said, “with the various judgments delivered on the matter so far, it is clear that Senator Ahmed Makarfi is the constitutionally recognized chairman of the PDP”.

Orbih accused Governor Adams Oshiomhole of sponsoring the factional PDP primary election held in Edo State on Thursday, describing the event as “a gathering of APC members, who voted for a suspended PDP member.”

Responding, the Edo State Commissioner for Sports, Priestley Ediagbonya, denied the PDP claim that it was denied usage of the stadium, saying that he only received PDP’s letter dated June 28, 2016, for the use of the stadium on Friday.

He said the letter got to the registry of the Ministry of Sports on June 28 and that he could not look into requests made to his ministry on Thursday as he spent the good part of the day attending a party’s function.
