All Stars trip to Spain is great motivation

- By David Ngobua

Wikki Tourists striker, Abubakar Lawal has said the plan by the League Management Company to select the best players in the domestic league for a playing tour of Spain in August is indeed a great motivation.

The LMC had announced that at the end of the current season, interim Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf, Wikki Tourists coach Abdul Maikaba and Rangers FC gaffer, Imama Amapakabo will lead a selected team to play against some La Liga clubs.

The innovation has since been hailed by football analysts who believe the playing tour will go a long way in exposing the local boys.

In a chat with Feverpitch, the former Flying Eagles star said he will keep working hard for better performance in the remaining matches so that those who are going to do the selection will have no option but to include his name in the list.

Abubakar who is among the leading goal scorers in the NPFL said he wants to be part of the trip because it would be a golden opportunity for him to exhibit his talent on a bigger stage.

“When I heard that some of the best players in the league would be selected to embark on a playing tour of Spain, I became so excited.

“I will worker harder so that when the time comes, I would be among the players to make the trip. It will provide the platform for me to show my abilities to the outside world.

“I am confident the trip will be a huge success because the league is filled to the brim with talented players,” he said.

Abubakar maintained that even as he is interested in the trip to Spain, his priority for now is to help his club win this year’s league title.

He said after winning the league, he and his team mates would be top favourites for the tour.

“Although I am keen on making the All Stars team, my number one priority is to win the league title. At the moment, we are not doing badly but there are still more hurdles to surmount.

“If we win the title, it will definitely brighten our chances of making the All Stars team so we shall not lose focus of the challenge before us,” he promised.

The Nigeria league selected team will play a series of matches in Spain that will feature top La Liga sides Valencia and Malaga in August.
