Body of abducted Benue priest laid to rest

The body of the kidnapped Vicar General of Otukpo Catholic Diocese in Benue State, Very Reverend Father, John Adeyi, which was found in a nearby bush at Odoba village in Otukpa area of the state three weeks ago has been laid to rest.

The remains of the cleric were interred at St Francis Cathedral Church in Otukpo after a funeral mass on Friday.

Adeyi was said to have been returning from an outstation after conducting the Sunday Mass when he was abducted on April 24.

His family had paid a ransom of N2 million three days after his abduction but he was not released.

His decomposed body was found on Wednesday, June 22, at an area close to where he was kidnapped by unknown persons. The incident occurred along the Otukpa-Ugbokolo road. Governor Samuel Ortom said during the burial that the abductors of Adeyi would not escape the wrath of God.

Represente­d by the acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr Bem Meladu, the governor expressed regrets over the death of the reverend gentleman, saying he had passion for the needy. The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 18 Commission­ers of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police and also approved their postings with four other AIGs.

A statement by the spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani said12 of them are to man the 12 Police zonal commands while the remaining 10 will head police special formations such as Operations, Training, Police Academy, Info-Tech, Investment and Maritime, among others.

He said: “The Commission­er of Police Kaduna State, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1, Abdulmajid Ali, CP, Ogun State, AIG, Zone 2 and UsmanTilli, AIG Border is now AIG zone 3.”

Others are: “AIG Dorathy A. Gimba retains her command of the Investment Formation, AIG Mohammed K.
