Youth council debunks corruption allegations
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has said that petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption in the execution of contracts by some companies are misleading.
Recently, the online media was inundated with petitions against M/S Eash Progressive Ventures Ltd, M/S Sabaiti Nig. Ltd, and M/S Eleku Construction Ltd. The report alleged that the companies were not duly registered, and therefore, not qualified for the contracts awarded to them by the National Commission for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.
But the NYCN said that contrary to such allegations, the companies were registered, and therefore, qualified for the jobs. In a press statement, the Council also stated that the allegation of non-execution of the procurement and supply contracts was false. They said there were documents to prove that the contracts were executed, adding that the companies were issued a certificate of job completion by the said commission. According to the Council, the companies wouldn’t have been issued a certificate of completion if the job was not verified.
A press release signed by the chairman, Stakeholders Committee of the NYCN, Casmir Uche, said, “it is obvious that the allegations are meant to tarnish the good reputation of the companies, which are committed to delivering good services to their clients. We hereby call on the public and institutions to disregard any information aimed at tarnishing the image of the companies.
“It is also important to mention that due process was followed in the award of the said contracts. In fact, the transparency exhibited by the commission should be applauded.’’
