Kano to establish Hisbah academy
The Kano State government has concluded plans to establish an academy to train officers of the Hisbah Board on how to carry out their duties professionally and effectively.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Sani Abdullahi Kawo, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Hisbah, while launching the sanitation of Eid grounds at the Kano Central Mosque prayer field.
Kawo said consultations with security agencies had already commenced to have insight into how the academy would be structured, adding that the institution would be launched after Sallah, as a site for it had been selected.
He added that the Hisbah headquarters would be moved to the new institution because the capacity of its current command headquarters had been overstretched.
In his remarks, the acting CommanderGeneral of the board, Dr. Yakubu Maigdia Kachako, said all Hisbah officers in the state had been mobilized to sanitize all the Eid prayer grounds in the state so as to enhance safety.
He said the board had enlisted the support of non-governmental organizations and the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to participate in the mosques sanitation across the state for the benefit of the Muslim society.
Kachako added that once the exercise is completed, some Hisbah officers would be deployed to protect the mosques until conclusion of the Eid-el-Kabir prayers on Monday.
On his part, the Chairman of Voice of NGOs, Comrade Haruna Ayagi, appealed to Governor Ganduje to establish a hospital for the Hisbah and to also purchase sufficient operational vehicles in order to improve the performance of Hisbah officers.
