Imama seeking long term consistency from Rangers
As Enugu Rangers stand on the verge of history by scooping their first league title in 32 years, their manager Imama Amapakabo says it’s important that the club think ‘long term’ and not rest on its laurels after this season.
In a chat with Fever Pitch, the Super Eagles assistant coach added that winning the title with the Enugu based club will represent a massive achievement considering the fact that most people didn’t tip them at the start of the season.
“We (Rangers) should start thinking beyond this season and start making efforts towards building a long term and consistent impact on both domestic and the international scene. I think doing that will enhance the club’s status globally.” He said.
Rangers are best placed to end a long wait for a major trophy by clinching this season’s Nigeria league title as they will most likely maintain their leadership till the final match next month. They are expected to likely finish top of the 19-team championship with 63 points.
Meanwhile, Rangers have given midfielder Emeka Eze a seven-day ultimatum to return to the club after a proposed transfer to an Egyptian club collapsed.
Experienced defensive midfielder Eze was to have joined Egyptian club Al Nasr on loan, but the paper work for the deal failed to come through before the transfer deadline and so the move was called off.
It was believed that his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) was not released by Rangers.
Eze, who was on the final Super Eagles squad to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, has made limited appearances for Rangers this season due to injuries and the form of Christian Madu, who has proved to be one of the club’s most consistent performers.
