Iduma, Okparanta to launch their novels in New York

Nigerian writers Emmanuel Iduma and Chinelo Okparanta will be launching new versions of their debut novels in, New York, October 6.

Iduma’s new book is called ‘The Sound of Things to Come’ published by The Mantle, New York, which was released in Nigeria as Farad by Parresia Publishers in 2012.

The author has since then gone on to receive an MFA in Art Criticism and Writing from the School of Visual Arts. He is the co-founder of Saraba Magazine and Co-editor of Gambit: Newer African Writing.

‘The Sound of Things to Come,’ is told from various points of view and is loosely centered on the activities of a university church, illuminati­ng the complex interconne­ctedness of a community, a statement by the publishers said.

Okparanta’s novel, ‘Under the Udala Trees’ was first published in 2015 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in hard cover.The acclaimed novel , just published in paperback by Mariner Books, is a deeply searching, powerful debut about the dangers of living and loving openly, inspired by Nigeria’s folktales and its war.

Okparanta holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop, and is the winner of a Lambda Literary Award and an O. Henry Prize, among other honors.

The two authors will read from their new work and discuss the current moment in Nigerian literature as well as their shared craft at the New York event.
