Iwobi looking forward to Zambia clash
Super Eagles forward Alex Iwbo says he can’t wait to join the rest of the senior national team squad in preparations to take on Zambia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying game in Ndola. The arsenal man was among the 23 man invited players by Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr after missing the Tanzania tie held in Uyo through injury.
Iwobi who has established himself as one of the regulars in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven took to twitter to express readiness to face Chipolopolo at the at the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
“Looking forward to linking up with my Nigerian teammates as we battle Zambia,#up Eagles.” The player wrote on twitter.
The Nigerian played for 70 minutes as his north London side overcame city rivals at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
Meanwhile, Oil-rich Rivers State government has agreed to stage Eagles and Algeria World Cup qualifier clash in Port Harcourt come November, officials disclosed.
The game is slated for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on November 7 after earlier reports suggested the game will be played in Uyo, which hosted a recent AFCON qualifier against Tanzania.
It will be the second Russia 2018 qualifier involving both countries as Nigeria will face the Zambians while Algeria and Cameroun go toe to toe the same day in Blida.
Rivers State Commissioner of sport Boma Iyaye said Port Harcourt is ready to play the perfect host ahead of the big fixture.
“Rivers State is ready to play the perfect host to the Super Eagles and the international community ahead of this important game,” he said.
“The Super Eagles and Olympic football team have played competitive and friendly matches here in Port Harcourt in the past so this is not novelty in any way.
“It is the utmost desire of the Rivers State Government to support the Super Eagles to ensure qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.” He said.
