Huge turnout expected as Kano tourney enters final day

Today will mark the final day of proceeding­s at the Sanusi Dantata internatio­nal polo ground in Kano where the city’s annual tourney has been taking place with massive crowd expected to show up for the finale.

The past 11 days has been intense with top clubs and players from all parts of the country battling each other for honours at the Bompai venue of the competitio­n.

Highlight of today’s event will be the 3.30 pm gallop off between Nigeria’s most decorated team Fifth Chukker and the highly talented Keffi Ponys, that particular match is tipped to be a top drawer as both teams battle for the MTN/EMK Cup.

The Emir of Kano HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who led a host of top dignitarie­s to witness the entertaini­ng final games of last year’s event is expected to repeat same this year and hand out trophies to winners at the end of the matches.

Some of the winners of the last few days include Ibadan Jericho overcame Kano Triple K to lift the M.R.S Cup while Abuja Rubicon saw off Kano Dantek to clinch the coveted Dantata trophy.

The Abuja Boys, powered by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, were clearly the stars of the tournament, as they added the Ado Bayero Cup played in honour of the immediate past Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ado Bayero, to their amazing trophy haul.

Speaking to Fever Pitch at the venue of the events, Vice-Captain of the Kano polo club Faruk Ibrahim hailed everyone involved with the preparatio­ns and actualizat­ion of the tournament.

He also called on the authoritie­s to do all they can to support the sport as it has massive potential that could propel the country to greater heights on different levels.

“We are glad with the way things started and now we are here, I will like to commend the efforts of everyone involved, our chairman and the corporate sponsors. We all have played a huge role for the actualisat­ion of this event and hopefully next year will be better.” He said.
