The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has expressed gratitude to the federal government and security agencies for the rescue of his wife, Mrs Margaret Emefiele.

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that Mrs. Emefiele was released at Ugoneki community in Edo State, following pressure from security forces.

It was gathered that she found her way to the highway after she was released by the kidnappers.

Mrs. Emefiele was abducted on Thursday along the Benin-Agbor road.

Daily Trust on Sunday could not confirm whether ransom was paid or not.

It was learnt that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris ordered the massive deployment of detectives and equipment, including police helicopter to the region shortly after her abduction.

Several attempts yesterday to contact the police spokesman DCP, Don Awunah to confirm the report were unsuccessful.

A statement released in Abuja yesterday by the CBN acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor, confirmed that the governor’s wife was rescued on Friday night. Emefiele was quoted as saying: “I am grateful to security agencies for their gallantry in bringing my wife back home within 24 hours in compliance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He added: “My gratitude to the Delta and Edo State governments, friends and well-wishers who through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end.

“I reaffirm my resolve to continue to serve the nation diligently without any fear of intimidation”.
