Why is deliverance necessary? Part 2

- Obadiah verse 17 “But on mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.” “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” Dr. Martin Luthe

Benefits of deliverance Welcome to the Month of Deliverance! October is our month of deliverance and coincidentally, it is the month of the nation’s independence. Just like nations, individuals desire and pursue freedom. The worst form of bondage is spiritual bondage.

Who needs deliverance?

comprehensive

First, second or third generation believers need deliverance. Also those who have been involved in sex outside marriage need deliverance. You need deliverance if your life is not moving forward or you are actually declining. Others who need deliverance are: those who are stagnating, those who are struggling financially, those who are struggling to keep a relationship, those who are finding it difficult to get married, those experiencing turbulence in marriage, those who perceive they are bound in one area or another as well as those who are addicted to one thing or another.

(AKJ) But on mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess (yarash=drive out previous occupants, to seize, succeed) their possessions.

(Apostles) “But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and there shall be a sanctuary; and the house of Jacob shall take for an inheritance those that took them for an inheritance.”

Three things happen in comprehensive deliverance:

1. Get rid of sin, and reverse the curse (The Cause Of Bondage). Deliverance (escape) is in the church. Only those who escape to the church will be delivered from the wicked grip of Satan and his host. Only those who escape sin and its consequences enjoy their inheritance. Notice the relationship between holiness and deliverance. Deliverance can only occur in a holy atmosphere.

To successfully get rid of the devil and be free of his afflictions, you have to first get rid of the grounds or platform on which he operates - sin and transgression.

A good deliverance session does not just involve screaming on devils but must deeply investigate and repent of ancestral and personal sins.

A thorough pre-ministration counseling that examines every area from ancestral to personal sins, issues and all must first be done if ministration is to be helpful. Partial ministration leads to frustration. There is the tendency to focus only on existing problems only and then overlook other equally important but silent issues. God wants us to be free indeed.

And after one has been delivered, it is imperative that one stays away from sin completely. Jesus would often say, “Go and sin no more, lest a worst thing befalls you.”The curse over your life is reversed in Jesus name.

2. Get rid of the devil (Enforcer of The Curse)

Many preachers have preached and written that the devil is irrelevant once you are born again but Jesus did not treat the devil as inconsequential. He did not tell us to ignore him but rather He gave us power to get rid of him and his demons. Demons don’t leave unless someone cast them out.

Jesus cast out devils - from The mad man of Gadara, The daughter of Abraham that was bound for 18 years, The epileptic child. Mark 9:17-18 “Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; 18And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.”

Jesus gave power to the twelve and then to the seventy to cast out devils.

He empowered the church to cast out devils - Mark 16:16 3. Possess your possessions The word possess is translated from the Heb word yarash which also means to forcefully seize. Jesus said the same thing in the NT when he said in Mat 11:12, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.” A vital component of deliverance is to forcefully recover what has been stolen from you by the enemy (the devil and his agents). We don’t fight flesh and blood.

They recover what they have lost - peace, joy, possessions, position, honour, etc. Compensation follows deliverance. Restoration follows deliverance. Deliverance is not complete unless there is recovery and restoration of lost assets and possessions.

When the curse is reversed, you recover what you have lost; you come out of bondage. You stop to labour and start to enjoy the blessings of God upon your life.

When the curse is reversed, you begin to receive what you have been denied. When the curse is reversed, impossibilities become possibilities; despair gives way to hope.

When the curse is reversed, frustration gives way to celebration because dreams become reality. I have witnessed dramatic changes in the lives of people after we ministered deliverance to them.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Adam or even Eve had cast the devil out in the Garden of Eden? They will not have lost their relationship with God. They would not have lost the Garden of Eden and all the provision in it.

Under similar circumstance on the other hand, Jesus overcame the temptation of the devil and cast him out. See how successful the ministry of Jesus was!

The Bible says upon mount Zion, there shall be deliverance and holiness, and the house of Jacob shall possess their possession. In other words, until you get the devil behind you, there is no real holiness; and you cannot possess your possessions. As long as you keep allowing the devil space in your life, you will not enjoy your life as a believer. The phrase to ‘possess their possession’ is the same Heb word ‘to succeed’. You will have to get rid of the devil if you truly want to succeed.

Have a beautiful week! Catherine of Aragorn and would not sign a letter asking Pope Clement VII to annul their marriage. Thomas was imprisoned and then beheaded for his steadfastness to the faith and refusal to give in to an evil political regime. On October 26, 2000, Pope St. John Paul II named him patron saint of politicians and statesmen (http://archphila.org/press%20 releases/pr000374.php).

St. Louis IX was King of France from 1226 until his death. He is the patron saint of France and the French monarchy.St. Casmir was the second son of the king of Poland. He was extremely devout and saw the riches that surrounded him as temptations. He preferred to be a light of hope for politics, showing that we must remember to whom the glory actually belongs and whom we serve, placing the glory of God and the good of others before our own glory. St. Margaret is a great example of a “woman behind the man.” She was able to influence the life of her husband, Malcolm who listened to her advice. She was a very wise first lady. She is credited with softening the temper of her husband. She shows that politics is not all just about policies and power, but also about influencing others to do good(http://epicpew.com/ politicians-who-became-saints/). If we are able to distinguish between real politicians who are divinely called and people who called themselves politicians whereas they are NPD patients, then we may come to accept that Politicians can be saints. Otherwise the crisis of leadership in our world will be endless and the people will continue to suffer. On us oh Lord have mercy, and grant us your salvation in those whom you have called to lead.
