Gunmen kill Kogi Miyetti Allah chairman
Gunmen numbering eight killed the Kogi State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Jalido, in the early hours of yesterday.
The gunmen were said to have invaded the deceased’s residence situated at Road 3, Peace Community, Lokoja at about 2.05 am on Saturday.
A witness told Daily Trust on Sunday that the assailants forced their way into the deceased’s room, shot him several times and also inflicted him with machete cuts.
“I was in my room which is just a few yards from his house, when I started hearing gunshots. I got up from my bed and looked out through the window and saw a group of bandits in two lines.
“At least I saw eight people. They shot several times. The next thing that I saw was that a bullet hit the overhead tank and water started rushing out.
“After they left, my landlord who is a security officer went to the deceased’s house. I went inside also and saw Alhaji in a pool of blood,” he said.
Another neighbour of the deceased said that prior to the incident, he had noticed some strange faces around the house of the late Jalido.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdullahi Chafe, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was on to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.
He described the incident as unfortunate, saying that the deceased Miyetti Allah leader had been helpful to the command in addressing some of the security issues involving herdsmen in the state.
