Mai Borgu, Haliru Dantoro IV gets staff of office

The new Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Barrister Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro IV, who ascended the throne on November 11, 2015, after the demise of his father the late emir, Sen. Dr. Haliru Dantoro III, was presented with the staff of office yesterday, in Borgu, New Bussa, Niger State.

The new emir would be the 19th since the emirate was founded by the descendant­s of the famous Kirsa about 1000 years ago. Presenting the staff of office to the new Mai Borgu, the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, urged him to uphold the legacy of integrity, justice and fairness which were characteri­stics of all the emirs who had ruled the kingdom.

The governor, who described the new emir as a “learned gentleman, whose life personifie­s perseveran­ce and faith in the will of Almighty Allah as the ultimate determinan­t of what happens at all times”, urged him to continue with the tradition of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence among the various tribes, which the kingdom is noted for.

He urged traditiona­l rulers in the state to always be vigilant, especially with the influx of people from neighbouri­ng states through the border communitie­s across the state.

In his remarks, the new emir promised to be fair to all his subjects and called on them to come up with meaningful ideas on how to move the emirate forward.

He thanked both President Muhammadu Buhari and the Niger State governor for their support to the Borgu Kingdom and its people.

He called on political leaders in the country to bury their difference­s for the developmen­t, progress and unity of the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari, a turbaned chief of the emirate was represente­d by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello and Abu Bawa Bwari, Minister of State, Ministry of Solid Minerals.
