Gaidam presents staff of office to emir of Ngelzarma
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State yesterday presented to the Emir of Ngelzarma, Alhaji Muhammadu Zanna Mai Yeri III, a staff of office and letter of instrumentation.
The governor said the Yobe State government appointed Muhammadu Yeri III as a First Class emir after considering many factors, including his experience, honesty and patience.
“With this appointment, you should be prepared to shoulder the heavy responsibilities associated with your office. As emir, you should serve your people honestly, diligently, and uphold the dignity and honour of all the people in your domain regardless of socioeconomic, tribal or religious differences”, Gaidam said.
The governor tasked the emir to encourage parents to send their children to school and to participate in routine immunization to check child-killer diseases. He also urged him to ensure that conflicts between farmers and pastoralists are minimized, and to encourage people across the emirate to engage in farming for food security.
Governor Gaidam also urged the people of Ngelzarma emirate to obey the new emir and cooperate with him to move the area forward.
The event was attended by many dignitaries and traditional rulers including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai al-Amin El-Kanemi.
The governor described the large gathering of people at the ceremony as an “indication of the significance of traditional institution as custodian of our rich cultural heritage and the role the leaders play in the development of their domains, the state and nation as a whole”.
Gaidam also eulogised the immediate past emir of Ngelzarma, Zanna Mai Yeri, who died two years ago and urged the current emir to learn from his “noble and worthy qualities of selfless service and hard work”.
