Skipper Mikel hails Rohr’s methods for Eagles

- By Mansur Abubakar

Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has attributed the senior national team’s recent form to brilliant methods used by german technical adviser Gernot Rohr who he said has turned the side’s fortunes around in a short spate of time.

The three times African Cup of Nations winners stepped up ten places in the grading released by the world football ruling body on Thursday also placing eighth in Africa.

In an interview aired by Super Sport yesterday, the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist also hailed the impact of teammates Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi who he believes has brilliant football brain and also plays like a 35 year old.

“He (Rohr) has totally changed the team, we now go into games with confidence with everyone knowing his responsibility unlike before when we were allowed to just play without much guidance.” The Chelsea midfielder noted.

Going on further to speak on Manchester City starlet Iheanacho and his Arsenal counterpart Iwobi.

“The young players are simply amazing, if you look at what Kelechi is doing at City and Alex who has an immense football brain and plays like a 35 year old is doing Arsenal, all I can say is that the future is bright for Nigeria.” Mikel concluded.

Nigeria’s World Cup rivals Algeria and Cameroon dropped in the latest ratings. Algeria are 38th in the world, three places down from their previous ranking, while Cameroon are 65th, six places below the position they enjoyed last month. Zambia moved to 91st position, three spots up from last month’s ranking.
