Noble Hall Leadership Academy for Girls, Abuja recently organized an art exhibition to showcase art works by students of the school and also to raise funds for an orphanage and for internally displaced persons in Abuja.

The event, which held in the school premises in Utako drew parents, arts lovers and friends of the schools, who bought the art works showcased. The proceeds from the day would go to support the less privileged in society.

The Charity prefect of the school, Hafsat Yahaya Ibrahim said, “The art works here are done by different students. Some of the works have been sold already while some are still available. The whole concept behind this fundraising event is to raise money for the orphanage in Karu and the IDP in Durumi”.

One of the students whose art work was showcased, Aisha Daura said, “The concept of my work is slavery, I was really annoyed. I am really against slavery, black oppression. Black lives matter. It was basically what was on my mind that was why I named the painting ‘Thoughts.’”

Another student, Zara Wakil, who showcased a beautiful piece, said, “It’s basically a parrot and I was using different colours to paint it. I tried to bring the parrot to life like for example the beak I painted it black and used sand to create a rough texture and I used paper tissues to bring it to life I just wanted to make it look fun.”

Mr Ogunseye Olufemi, the art teacher of the academy threw more light on the purpose of the event and how all the works on display were created by the students.

He said, “Everybody is an artist but the ability to take it to another level is the problem. The students can draw and paint, in fact some of them have a very solid foundation, what they needed was just a little push and they will ignite and fly and that is what I have been able to do and thank God for the school that has been able to provide enough art materials for them and the curriculum is also encouraging. So having seen their works, I decided to put them together to stage this exhibition which is also to raise money for the IDP and orphanage”.
