Iheanacho should start thinking of a loan move

- By Mansur Abubakar

Former Super Eagles midfielder Dahiru Sadi says he agrees with ex-international Tijjani Babangida that Manchester City player Kelechi Iheanacho should start getting comfortable with the idea of a loan move considering his situation with the Citizens.

Sadi in a chat with Fever Pitch yesterday added that as things stand his position in the City attacking pecking order has further plummeted especially with high profile Sergio Aguero also looking on how to get back into the starting eleven.

He also spoke on Iheanacho’s removal from the UEFA Champions League A team list, a situation Sadi describes as a major setback.

“Iheanacho should do himself a favour and start romancing the idea of a loan transfer; I believe it will help his career. If he shines while away then he comes back as a massive player but for now City are not even looking towards his direction as Sergio Aguero is also trying to get back into the first team.”

Unlike Sadi, Babangida’s advice came before the expiration of the January transfer window where the former Ajax star exclusively told Daily Trust that it’s important for Iheanacho to have a chat with City manager Pep Guardiola regarding his future with the possibility of going out on loan after the arrival of Gabriel Jesus.

Babangida believes a loan deal will fit the player perfectly as he’s in the right position to bounce back to the team with a view to making a big impact next season or a season after, citing his age bracket as ‘very good’.

“What I’ll advise Kelechi to do at this time is to sit down with Guardiola to iron out his future because as people rightly pointed out, the arrival of Gabriel Jesus pushes him further out of the team. Honestly I feel a loan deal will fit him perfectly, he needs more playing time more than anything at this time and he’ll return better equipped for City.” Babangida said at the time.

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is also believed to be concerned about the 2013 U17 FIFA World Cup winner’s predicament considering he’s vital to Nigeria’s pursuit for a ticket to the next Mundial in Russia.
