‘Still single in Gidi’ resurrects on stage

- From Nurudeen Oyewole, Lagos

Organisers of the popular stage act - ‘Still single in Lagos’ have announced plans to resurrect on stage, the play which debuted in 2015, starting from March 2017.

In a statement by the organisers, the concept of being ‘Still Single in Gidi’ which was written by Sheila Ojei, an art connoisseur, singer and poet, reflects the unique situation many singles in Lagos experience.

“After a successful ‘Single in Gidi’ stage play in 2015, requests from far and near for a re-run have been pouring in. Hence the sequel ‘Still Single in Gidi.’ This story of being single in Lagos never grows old because it stays relevant to us and comes back on an even larger stage in 2017,” a part of the statement read.

The statement added that the stage play has been packaged in a way that it treated essential subthemes such as: ‘Yoruba Demons,’ ‘Becoming wifey,’ ‘Single Motherhood,’ ‘Lagos Packaging,’ among others, all of which are peculiar to the act of ‘Still Single in Lagos.’

“If you live and/or have tasted the Lagos life then you know that everyone has their own unique tale or varying views of being single and this play illustrates it in a unique performance.

“Serving the purpose to entertain and enlighten you, the play is produced by S and S Creative Media Co and directed by Belinda Yanga-Agedah,” the statement added.

Organisers said ‘Still Single in Gidi’ would be showing at the Lagos Theatre Festival which will be organized by the British Council and shall feature casts including, Toni Tones, Timi Charles-Fadipe, Omoye Uzamere, Damilare Kuku, Priye George, Patrick Oke, Charles Etubiebi and Omobola Akinde.
