Rohr focuses on strikers ahead of next friendly
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is hoping to change the fortunes of his striking force ahead of tomorrow’s friendly at the Hive Stadium in London tomorrow. The Nigeria Football Federation are expected to later in the day announce opponents for tomorrow’s game after Burkina Faso pulled out due to visa challenges faced by its playing staff.
In a training session held in London yesterday, the German tactician was said to have focused a great deal on shooting practices for his strikers who failed to shine against Senegal in Thursday’s friendly which ended 1-1.
Nigerian fans that turned up to support the side were especially disappointed by striker Kayode Olarenwaju who couldn’t convert a host of chances in front of goal.
Confirming this development, Israel based striker John Ogu posted a video of yesterday’s shooting practice observed by Rohr on his twitter handle with the words “Shooting practice in today’s (yesterday’s) training.”
Rohr has admitted that his team started slowly before gradually gaining momentum in the international friendly with Senegal on Thursday night.
“It is a fact that Leon (Balogun), (William) Ekong and Elderson (Echiejile) had not been playing regularly in their clubs, and even Kenneth (Omeruo) who had been active was played in a different role, ” Rohr stated.
“Musa and Kelechi had also not been playing much. So, it was tough for them at the start but they picked up well and showed good character.”
Nigeria wrap up their international friendly fixtures when they face Burkina Faso at the Hive Stadium on tomorrow.
